??? Days of Blurple-purple lilies

Hmm, I'm having a hard time knowing where to start on this one. I did this manicure quite a while ago, and I think the color scheme is all wrong. It was a pretty look, but nobody actually figured out what it was supposed to be. To learn what I was going for, and see the original manicure that inspired it, join me after the jump.

Stargazer lily nail art, as seen on Chalkboard Nails
So this manicure was inspired by seeing the beautiful nail art over at Chalkboard Nails. When I saw that Sarah had done a tutorial for this awesome lily manicure, I knew I had to try it. What I should have done was use the same color scheme as Sarah did in her art, or at least google image a purple stargazer lily.

My attempt at stargazer lily nails, left hand
I have been pretty unsuccessful at nail art up until recently. Because of this, I didn't sponge my purple on like Sarah did in her original. I figured that the triangles would probably not come out anyway, so why take the extra effort with the sponging? I was thrilled when the triangles came out intact. So much so that I went for it and did my right hand, using a variation on my color scheme:

The end result of my manicure is not bad, but it's nowhere near as nice as the original.  And personally, I think it looks like a purple ladybug's back. :)

For this mani, I started with the following on both hands:
Essie Lilacism as a base
Wet n Wild Little Luxuries blurple

On the left hand, I used:
China Glaze Anklets of Amethyst for the sides
OPI Grape, Set, Match for the dots
China Glaze It's Alive for the green center

On the left hand, I used:
OPI Grape, Set, Match for the sides
Finger Paints Amethyst Atelier
LA Colors Sky Blue nail art pen for the blue center

Do you think these nails look like lilies, ladybugs, or an abstract geometric design? And do you have a preference between the left and right hands?

  2. I usually don't have it either, but I since liked Sarah's design so much and saw the tutorial, I figured I had to try it.
