Wet n Wild Party Rocks polishes=more repromoted Spoileds

Here's a post I began writing a while back and then completely forgot to follow up on. Hope the info in here still helps, even if it's largely outdated. The Wet n Wild Party Rocks collection was out for the 2012 holidays, so these polishes aren't available in most drugstores anymore. My post talks about how most of them are dupes anyway!

There hasn't been much information posted about the Wet n Wild Party Rocks holiday 2012 nail polish collection and I'm not surprised-it's a bunch of repromotes! All but one of the "new" colors are repromotes of colors from the Spoiled line. To boot, all of the repromotes are also apparent dupes of Sinful Colors! Don't believe me? Boy Oh Boy, do I like Wet n Wild School of Pyrotechnics!

I recently published some less than stellar pictures of Jordana Boy Oh Boy! I promised to do another mani that did the color justice, and I hope I´ve accomplished that  in this post. I recently picked up a color that I thought was a metallic version of Boy Oh Boy.  It´s Kleancolor Teal Marble, and I really wanted to do a manicure featuring both of these great colors. I came up with the combo above. Since I also really like Wet n Wild School of Pyrotechnics, I decided to add that over Jordana Boy Oh Boy. I've had really good luck with nail polish when I've visited my friend in LA. During spring break, I found microbeads to do my own caviar manicure and a polish supply store that sells mini bottles. Recently, I visited again and found a display of magnetic polishes at a Rite Aid in Glendale. The same polishes have only recently emerged in my local Rite Aids. Today I'm showing you a few pictures of Igniting the Spark, a light purple magnetic with a whitish-purple magnetic pattern. Comparison-Wet n Wild On a Trip vs. Revlon Modern Grace

I mentioned the similarities between these two polishes back when I did a post about Revlon Modern Grace. I did 2 coats of each polish for this comparison. Wet n Wild On a Trip is on the pointer and ring fingers and Revlon Modern Grace is on the middle and pinkie fingers.  The 2 purples are extremely close, but Modern Grace is slightly dustier and darker than On a Trip. Also, I mentioned in my other post, the formula for Modern Grace is quite a bit better than the one for On a Trip. You can see that On a Trip is still a bit spotty at 2 coats, while Modern Grace looks good at 2 coats.  However, On a Trip is widely available at most drugstores, but Modern Grace is going to be harder to find. It was a limited edition Revlon Top Speed for last summer, but it's still available at select discounters.

Hmm, I'm having a hard time knowing where to start on this one. I did this manicure quite a while ago, and I think the color scheme is all wrong. I just have a quick post for you today. Here is the OPI glitter Pirouette My Whistle over Revlon Modern Grace. Pirouette My Whistle is from the OPI Softshades New York Ballet collection. It's a clear base with white hex glitter and silver microglitter. Revlon Modern Grace is from their top speed line. It's a beautiful creme purple with a great formula. A common insult for modern art is that "it's so simple, a child could do it." Let me tell you, even the simple things like coloring and painting can be quite complicated for autistic children. Teachers and occupational therapists spend a lot of time in the early years of a child's life working on "hand grasp." Having a good hand grasp on pencils, pens and crayons is vital to a child being able to write and function as s/he gets older.

The second night I stayed at with my friend, she mentioned that she hadn't had much luck when she tried watermarbling.  Since I haven't exactly been successful myself, I suggested that we try watercolor nails, instead. First of all, I have to explain that I took a short vacation this last weekend to take advantage of my spring break. I was away from the internet and that's why I'm posting my Easter related manis today.

I wanted to do an Easter manicure that still fit into my blue scheme for Autism Awareness, so I chose to include lots of blue leaning pastels for this look. I was staying with a friend over my vacation and used her backyard to shoot my sunlight pictures of the mani. Daisy the dog was there and has graced us with her beauty in several of my pictures. I am a huge fan of purple and of the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so when I picked up Wet n Wild Buffy the Violet Slayer, I was predisposed to liking it. The awesome pictures of it on Scrangie's top 10 post didn't hurt, either. But the purple color really blew me away on the nail. The deep blue violet is such a saturated, beautiful jewel tone! The addition of Sinful Colors Green Ocean on top of the polish turned it into pure jaw-dropping gorgeousness.  Keep reading to see more pictures of this amazing combination!

I went to CVS today and was thrilled to find that the Spoiled collection has finally arrived. If you've been following this blog, you'll know that I've been searching for it for a while. I controlled myself and only bought 2 polishes in the hopes that there will be a sale soon. Watch for swatches of Trust Fund Baby and Pet My Peacock in the next few days. In the meantime, I swatched some of the colors on an old gift card when I saw them. (Nothing but the best for this blog, LOL.) Winter weather is a little late hitting us here in Northern California, so it wasn't until now that I thought break out these winter trees with my Wet n Wild blurple topcoat. It still barely feels like winter here, but this mani definitely put me more in a wintery mood.  I did this nail art without any special tools. I wanted to accentuate the slight blue duochrome in my unnamed Wet n Wild Little Luxuries purple, so I thought layering it over a dark blue was a good idea. Once I actually did it, I was stumped on where to go next with this mani.  Find out how I came up with my final look after the jump.

??? Days of Blurple-Fowl Play Edition

This is the 3rd look so far of my experimental color.  As you may have guessed, I was not too pleased with my original 4 coat mani and I immediately started playing around with it. One of the things I did was layer a glitter and Orly Fowl Play over the original color, and I was pretty pleased with the results. ??? Days of Blurple-Magenta Cascade

If you've read this post, you might know that I've made it my mission to use up this little bottle of polish and figure out exactly how many uses you can get out of a mini. Since I have no intention of ever doing 4 coats again, I will be using it in a variety of ways that always involves using a full coat at a time.

My (late) 2011 Top 10-Part 2

Here are the rest of my top 10 choices for the year. It's an ecclectic mix, and I'll explain it more after the jump.

My (late) 2011 Top 10-part 1

So I'm pretty new to the nail polish world, and most of my nail polishes have been acquired in the last year. Despite this, when I saw all the "top 10" lists, it made me sit down and think about what my favorite colors have been that were released in the last year.  I don't have much time or patience to do a manicure for each, so I swatched them all on a nail wheel instead.  Here are the first 6 colors:

NOTD-Wet N Wild SaGreena the Teenage Witch

So this manicure started as a nail fail. I had intended to do a gradient mani with this color, but I neglected to check on this polish's opacity. Once I put it on my white nail, I knew there was no way it would ever build up sufficiently. I tried to salvage the look by doing some dots and Christmas lights.

I used WnW SaGreena the Teenage Witch for the background green. I think it's a beautiful, shimmery green, totally appropriate for the Christmas season. Just not very opaque, LOL.  Another warning: when it came time for removal, it stained a LOT!  Afterwards, I added dots and lights with Elf Light Red and Wet n Wild Metallica and unnamed Coloricon gold for the dots.  

12/25/11 Weekly Blog Roundup: New WnW polishes and some lists

Merry Christmas, everybody! So it being Christmastime, many bloggers (including me) have been too busy to post. Others have been posting beautiful nail art. There is so much great stuff to choose from, I won't make more work for myself by trying to narrow it down. Besides, I figure most people are done with their Xmas nail art anyway. 

-One fantastic piece of news this week just got posted on Nouveau Cheap's website: Wet n Wild is releasing 2 kinds of new nail products, along with some other makeup. http://nouveaucheap.blogspot.com/2011/12/spotted-new-nail-eye-and-lip-products.html  One of them is crackle nail polishes, which will be limited edition and were priced at $2.88 at Walmart.  I'm sure many nail philes are sick of the crackle trend, but I find Wet n Wild's entry notable because of the low price. The cheapest I've ever seen crackle before has been at $3.99. The other nail line  is "salon quality" nail polish, including a few new colors. This polish will retail at $1.99 each. -A bit of bad news for me is my continued failure to find some of the new stuff I've told you about. I've yet to find Revlon's Whimsical or the Spoiled nail polish line even though I've been going to a bunch of different drugstores recently. Maybe after the Christmas season when they have more display space?

-The other thing I wanted to share is some top 10 lists.  Canadian bloggers Rebecca of Rebecca Likes Nails and Kayla Shevonne are currently doing a series on the top 10 nail polishes released in 2011!  The Nailspotting blog posted a top 10 list as well.  It's very interesting to see what their choices are and compare them to your own. Kayla and Rebecca have also done a personal top 10 list. The Polish Insomniac has her top 20 as one of the tabs at the top of her page.   I'm always trolling for new colors, so I find it fascinating to look at the colors that other polish lovers consider "the best of the best!" Here are the links: Jessica (i.e. The Polish Insomniac) and Kayla Part 1 Part 2.*Edited to add*  I got ahold of Rebecca and she provided links to her Top 10 posts Part 1 Part 2 with the caveat that her choices were made when her collection was much smaller.

Comparison-Ulta Fashionably Late vs. Wet n Wild Diamond in the Rough

Ulta's Glitterati set has 3 great dupes of highly coveted Deborah Lippmann polishes and that makes it worth its $4.99 price. The one  color in the set that is less recognizable as a dupe is Fashionably Late, a blackened jelly base with charcoal and silver hex glitter. It may not be as well known, but I happen to think this is a dupe of a Lippmann as well. Dancing in the Dark was recently released as part of the Dance Music holiday trio, a set of minis. 

I don't own a the Lippman but I do own a very similar color, Wet n Wild Diamond in the Rough. Join me after the jump for a coat by coat comparison of the two.
