It's Baaaaack!- Sinful Colors Green Ocean has already been sighted!

This year's St. Patrick's display, featuring Green Ocean in the middle
I've heard reports on various websites that some Walgreens have already started putting out the St. Patrick's Day displays that feature Sinful Colors Green Ocean. The green tinted polish is a favorite among us nail lovers because it's a flakie polish at a very affordable price!

The green hued flakie is only available annually in St. Patrick's Day displays.  Like all Sinful Colors polishes, its retail price is only $1.99. In the past, Walgreens is the only drugstore where I've found the St. Patrick's Day displays with this polish but I also wasn't much of a Rite Aid shopper before this year. I imagine that other stores that carry Sinful Displays might also be putting the St. Patrick's polishes out soon.

There are plenty of nice swatches of Green Ocean out there. Personally, I've layered it over violet and blue.  My swatch below has it over Orly Royal Navy.  Hopefully I'll come up with some other good layering combos and post them soon. In the meantime, just wanted to alert everyone to start looking, since this polish is highly coveted and only available around this time of year. After St. Patrick's Day, it'll disappear faster than a fleeing leprechaun!

Unspeakable beauty-Sinful Colors Green Ocean over Orly Royal Navy

Okay, April may be long over but I still have a few blue manicures to post, so I'm continuing my Autism Awareness theme. :)

Those with autism have a brain that works differently than ours. A big part of that is that they process things visually and not verbally.  As a result, preschoolers with autism don't start speaking until later than their typical peers, and some of them will barely speak at all, even as they get older. There are plenty of autistic people who are very verbal, but in general, an autism diagnosis means a less verbal child. Speech therapists and other educators work with all types of autistic children to improve their ability to speak and communicate with others.

This combo was inspired by seeing a great picture of Sinful Colors Green Ocean over a royal blue on the Icy Queen Nail Parlour blog. After having tried and being really impressed by the beautiful blue shimmer in Orly Royal Navy, I wanted to try flakies with it. Royal Navy is an awesome royal blue jelly with a bit of a turquoise shimmer. I got more shimmer out of it by keeping Royal Navy upside down until it was ready to apply. The shimmer tends to settle at the bottom so this helped.  Sinful Colors Green Ocean is the blue flakie in a green base that is typically only available around St. Patrick's day.  I'm lucky to have picked mine up and have liked it no matter what color it's over. To see a lot more more pics of Royal Navy and Green Ocean together, keep reading!

Sinful Colors Green Ocean on deep purple= pure magic

Sinful Colors Green Ocean over Wet n Wild Buffy the Violet Slayer, sunlight
I am a huge fan of purple and of the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so when I picked up Wet n Wild Buffy the Violet Slayer, I was predisposed to liking it. The awesome pictures of it on Scrangie's top 10 post didn't hurt, either. But the purple color really blew me away on the nail. The deep blue violet is such a saturated, beautiful jewel tone! The addition of Sinful Colors Green Ocean on top of the polish turned it into pure jaw-dropping gorgeousness.  Keep reading to see more pictures of this amazing combination!

Sinful Colors Green Ocean-Get it while you can!

Sinful Colors Green Ocean, a flakie that's only available for a limited time
Just want to remind my fellow flakie lovers to go out and get your bottle of Sinful Colors Green Ocean ASAP. The green hued flakie has historically only been available in St. Patrick's Day displays, and like all Sinful Colors polishes, it's only $1.99.  Be sure to get it before Sunday the 18th, when they'll be sure to start taking down the St. Patrick's displays. Walgreens is the only drugstore where I found the St. Patrick's Day displays with this polish. I say, the sooner you start searching, the better, because I went to 2 Walgreens yesterday that didn't have it before I finally found it at a 3rd one.  The other option (besides waiting for next year), would be to purchase a bottle at the Cherry Culture website where they sell it year round, but you would also have to pay additional charges for shipping if you did.

*Edited to add: be sure to check out my recent posts featuring Green Ocean layered over violet and blue. Also, I added the link to Cherry Culture on 5/27/12. I had mistakenly remembered seeing Green Ocean for sale on the Sinful Colors website, but I'm fairly certain that the place where I saw it months ago was Cherry Culture.

??? Days of Blurple-Fowl Play Edition

This is the 3rd look so far of my experimental color.  As you may have guessed, I was not too pleased with my original 4 coat mani and I immediately started playing around with it. One of the things I did was layer a glitter and Orly Fowl Play over the original color, and I was pretty pleased with the results. Learn how I achieved a similar look in way less coats after the jump.

More of Finger Paints Asylum

I tried out Finger Paints Asylum over various colors on the nail wheel. After limited success with the two colors I did try it over initially, I did another mani with it:

1 coat Asylum over 2 coats Artist's Sapphire, both Finger Paints polishes

Curse you, Library! I.e., please vote for a flakie!

Which Finger Paints flakie would you like to see first?
-Motley(blue)
-Flecked(green)
-Tainted(purple with green and gold)
-Asylum(purple with green and gold and more blue)
-combo of some kind

I'm pretty new at this blogging thing, so I have no idea how to do a real poll. Vote for a favorite in the comments.  (If you want a reference point for the colors, follow this link to the Nail Polish MD, who did all of them over black.)  Also, let me know what you think my base color(s) should be. Remember that flakies do better over darker colors.

How did I end up with all these flakies? What other polishes did I get-for $2 or less?  How does the library figure into any of it? Find out after the break!
